No more PPSMI or Teaching Science and Mathematics in English

First thing comes to my mind after knowing this decision was "Is it politically motivated?". And unsurprisingly, that was also the first thing they denied in scraping this policies. Which only fuel my doubt on weather this was politically motivated or not.

This issue have been long discussed, debated, questioned and to some extent, condemned by different walks of people in Malaysia.

It all comes down to one word. Politic.

Who will suffer from this? The pupils, students, teachers and our future.
Who will benefit from this? The politicians and chauvinist nationalist.

Was PPSMI a failure?

He however denied that the PPSMI policy had failed.

"I wouldn't say it was a complete failure, but it did not achieve what it was supposed to achieve," he said.M.I

A 'maybe' answer. And this answer actually came from our DPM.

So, was the previous policy a success? I meant before PPSMI was implemented. If it was successful, why did they made PPSMI policy? So, the policy before PPSMI wasn't successful either. Then, why are they taking a step backward?

Politicians really screwed our education system. And they actually realized it since they sent their children to international school or private school.

Damn!

Unfair to Sabahan, not the other way around!

As a Sabahan, this really piss me off.

Tawau: Education Minister Dato' Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein described as "unfair", the policy practiced by schools here not to accept into Form One, students who have their citizenship status in their temporary identification document stated as "undetermined". DE

Just for the sake of his political carrier he made these remarks. What does he know about Sabahan citizenship problems? Can't he see the root of this so called 'undetermined citizenship status' children problem? Why on earth does these children status became undetermined in the first place?

If it is because of late registration by their parents after birth, why does it takes them 13 years ? (general age for form 1 student is 13 years old) How come they didn't register their kids earlier? 13 years should be more than enough time for them to do it.

Why? Because these are Illegal Immigrants kids!

"As the Education Minister I wish to state that it is not a policy I approve of. If it really exists we will change it today itself," he said, while visiting SK Balung.

It is not just a policy but it involves the constitution of Malaysia. If one of the parent is not of Malaysian citizenship, he/she must apply for it.

He said such a policy, "if it is a policy", was not fair considering the process in getting an Identity Card from the NRD "would take some time".

Like I said earlier, 13 years to to process? That is just absurd!

"The delay on the part of departments and ministries should not be a reason for them not to be accepted into school," he stressed.

Tell the NRD to speed up then. It's their problem. Why skip the legal process? And these are Illegal Immigrants we are talking about. How on earth did they manage to register with the NRD in the first place. 'Projek I.C' again?

I'm not saying that these kids doesn't deserve to gain knowledge but the main problem is why does these kids exists in the first place? Just solve Sabah's Illegal Immigrants issues and this 'unfairness' will end. No need to change any policies on education in Sabah.

Don't mix it with your political gain!

Indonesian school in Sabah..for the better or..??

The Indonesian government is proposing for a land to build and relocate the present Sekolah Indonesia Kota Kinabalu (SIKK) at Alamesra. Actually, I didn't even know that such school exist in Sabah. So why did the Indonesian Government decided to relocate the current school? read here.

For me, this is actually a great idea. It is better to give these kids a proper education rather than being a street kids. But some issues come to mind. Will the pupils that are going to attend this school are those with legitimate paper or illegal immigrants as raised by PBS. It is a sound concern, even though it might be politically motivated, if you know what I mean.

And if these kids are not from paperless Indonesian family, why not just attend government school? Is it not there are laws that allows them to attend government school? Maybe economic problems..?

But whatever the reason for building SIKK, I hope it is done through the right channel.

Sabahan Teacher Agree to What?!

I'm shocked. I'm speechless (well, not totally). The Sabah Government Teacher Unions (KGKS) has unanimously agreed to reinstate history as a subject in all primary school. What? Even in peninsular, this matter is yet to be agreed on but Sabahan teachers already made a decision? A very hasty decision. Did they really discuss it collectively or just based on a few members or the board committee of KGKS?

Yussoff said that children must understand the sacrifices made by the forefathers in bringing development and freedom to the country.

He added that the union preferred that the subject be taught based on the journeys made by leaders of the past which the students could understand better. read more

How can a very young and immature mind understand such complex subject? Surely they'll simplified it but to what extent? Besides, this proposal was clearly politic motivated. To be precise, UMNO. I mean, you can't mix politic with education. Just look at what it have done to Malaysia education. Even our university rank is worst than Thailand.

Ok, they did mention how they preferred this subject to be taught based on the journeys made by leaders of the past. But will it be? The syllabus doesn't even exist yet! How come the decision is made based on NOTHING?!

As I said in my earlier post, I'm not against it but supporting it even there's nothing available to gauge the implementation of this subject? That's an act of a Pak Pandir.

History for... UPSR....??

Yes, you read right, History is going to be taught in primary school and will be made as one of the subject in UPSR. Well, it's still being studied but judging from our Deputy Education Ministry Datuk Razali Ismail response, it seems this proposal will be implemented.

Its deputy minister Datuk Razali Ismail said the matter was being studied in the "Transformation of the Curriculum for Primary Schools" that was slated for implementation two years from now. Yahoo news

But, something just doesn't seems right. It's seems like political motive is involved in this matter.

Why?

Well. first of all, it was propose by our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. It was very obvious that this proposal was base on recent issues such as Social Contract, Religion, Special Rights and racial sentiment. Then these questions comes to mind. What will be the contents of this primary History subject? Will it be free of bias towards certain 'race'? Are these primary students mature enough to understand history? If they are not mature enough, doesn't it looks like 'brainwashing' them.

Read the bold sentence. What kind of history lesson will it be when these aspects are to be highlight? We all know that these aspects are clearly biased towards a certain race. How can it promote racial harmony when these aspects were to be 'put' in each kids conscience according to 'their' ideology? Isn't this somehow a way of making the next generation to be 'obedient' to 'them'.

I'm not against this proposal, but the syllabus for this would be primary History subject just a bit shady for me.

Or maybe this is just Pak Lah attempt to leave some 'legacy' before he step down as PM..

Education in Malaysia

Sejauh mana tahap pendidikan kamu? Adakah kamu bercita-cita sampai ke Universiti? Siapakah individu yang mempengaruhi kamu untuk memasang cita-cita itu? Adakah individu yang mempengaruhi kamu itu mengatakan itu adalah peringkat tertinggi dalam pendidikan? Adakah individu itu juga mengatakan yang masa depan kamu akan menjadi cerah jika dapat sampai ke menara gading? Adakah individu itu bernama guru?

Hmm, inilah salah satu masalah dalam sistem pendidikan di negara kita. Terlalu 'exam orientated'. Maka timbullah persoalan2 di atas. Akibatnya, objektif utama universiti dibina tidak tercapai. Kenapa saya katakan begitu?

Masalah sistem pendidikan kita boleh dilihat dari peringkat sekolah rendah lagi. Sistem penilaian dalam menentukan kebolehan murid adalah berdasarkan peperiksaan bertulis. Kelulusan boleh diperolehi hanya dengan mengingat isi-isi penting. Walaupun soalan berbentuk subjektif, ia masih memerlukan hafalan untuk mendapatkan jawapan yang dikehendaki. Akibatnya, kanak-kanak seawal darjah 1 sudah dihantar ke kelas-kelas tuisyen. Ramai ibu bapa berharap agar anak mereka dapat memperolehi 'lebih' ilmu agar kelulusan itu berubah kepada kecemerlangan dengan mengorbankan 'zaman kanak-kanak' anak mereka.

Akhirnya, aspek lain seperti sosial, rohani dan jasmani tidak diberi perhatian. Lihat saja mata pelajaran seperti Pendidikan Moral, Muzik, Pendidikan Jasmani dan Kesihatan dan lain-lain lagi; tidak diberi perhatian dan dianak tirikan. Jika kita lihat sistem pendidikan negara-negara maju yang lain, aspek-aspek ini sangat dititikberatkan malah diterapkan ke dalam mata pelajaran teras.

Kesannya, sistem pendidikan kita ini melahirkan individu yang tidak seimbang dari segi intelek, jasmani, rohani dan sosial. Maka lahirlah pemimpin-pemimpin yang juga tidak seimbang.
