Indonesian school in Sabah..for the better or..??

Guong

The Indonesian government is proposing for a land to build and relocate the present Sekolah Indonesia Kota Kinabalu (SIKK) at Alamesra. Actually, I didn't even know that such school exist in Sabah. So why did the Indonesian Government decided to relocate the current school? read here.

For me, this is actually a great idea. It is better to give these kids a proper education rather than being a street kids. But some issues come to mind. Will the pupils that are going to attend this school are those with legitimate paper or illegal immigrants as raised by PBS. It is a sound concern, even though it might be politically motivated, if you know what I mean.

And if these kids are not from paperless Indonesian family, why not just attend government school? Is it not there are laws that allows them to attend government school? Maybe economic problems..?

But whatever the reason for building SIKK, I hope it is done through the right channel.

Less than half is Sabahan in Sabah.

Guong

All Sabahan know of this situation but to know that the Native Sabahan have really become minority in our own land, it's like a nightmare turning into a reality. A situation that usually only happens in the movies.

What can we do? These new 'natives' have already rooted to deep in Sabah current situation. I have met a lot of these new 'natives' working not as labors but professional such as nurse, teacher, contractors, YB etc.

I can only see one solution. Compete. Yes, that is the only way out. We can't force them to go out from Sabah or Malaysia anymore. Unless they still haven't got any legal document yet which is very unlikely due to 'Projek I.C' decades ago. We can't just keep on blaming our government or Sabah state government for that matter. They wouldn't give a damn other that their own pocket.

So, Sabahan, get educated. Sought any opportunity to improve our self. (legal one la..)

Green Card...for thousands of stateless in Tawau??

Guong

Tawau has thousands of "stateless" people? What? How did these people ends up being stateless in the first place? Lack of awareness by the 'local' on registering their child after birth? They live deep in the jungle that need 2 to 3 days to reach causing them unable to register their children?

I've live in Tawau before and I've even been to their most deep 'kampung' such as Kalabakan. And you know what, those deep, far kampung actually has a proper road to link them with Tawau town. In those kampung they even have Astro subscribers. Yet they are STATELESS? What are these "stateless" people excuses for being stateless in the first place?

Why did NRD even choose Tawau to open this green card registration in the first place? Why not Kinabatangan, Sook, Pensiangan, Keningau, Tenom, Long Pasia, Pitas, Kota Marudu.. These are the places where land communication is a problem thus causing most of the villagers there can't register their child after birth. These are the places where genuine "stateless" people live. But instead they choose Tawau. A place which is well known for its illegal immigrants from the Philippine and Indonesia.

The NRD claim that they will not issue green card to foreigner or illegal immigrants. Yeah sure, like the misissued red I.C cases. Damn it!!

Wind of change for Sarawak?

Guong

It's official, another members of Sarawak state representative joined PKR. Along with 12,000 more Sarawakian. It cause quit a buzz in Sarawak and for our current ruling government even though no official comment have been made by 'them'. Maybe it's because the federal government doesn't have any 'channel' to voice their 'concern'. Why? well Sarawak has full autonomy over their own administration unlike Sabah which is controlled by UMNO led government.

This event remind me of a chat I had with one of my Sarawakian friend three years ago.

Me : Man, I'm sick of my current state leader.

L : Why?

Me : Because Sabah is controlled by outsider. All of our wealth and resource are rob away just like that. Our oil, timber, even palm oil. Sabah leaders only follow whatever the federal government say. Like a 'yes men'. Like a buffalo being drag by its nose.

L : Really? That is bad.

Me : Yeah, you know, I really envy your state. Your people have full control over your own state. Unlike us, we have to bow to UMNO, but in your state, they have to bow to you. You know how they look at us Borneo? just as their income source. Just look at us Sabahan, we are so left behind, Sarawak is actually even better than Sabah in term of all aspects, be it education, infrastructure, immigration, politic etc.. I'm so jealous man..

L : Ha ha..Is that how Sabah look at Sarawak? Well, it's true Sarawak has more control over our own state, but, we Sarawakian also face problems because of our 'more' control situation. There are discrimination and monopoly of certain ethnic happening in Sarawak for a very long time now. Do you know that my ethnic, Dayak, form the largest ethnic group in Sarawak yet we are sidelined by the current leader? All of the projects, benefits are monopolized by cronies.

Me : Really, whoa..I didn't know that.

L : And you know what, all this time we see Sabah as better than Sarawak because you get to change you Chief Minister. It prevent cronies to stay since you rotate your leader between ethnic. So everyone gets a fair share.

Me : Ha ha..yeah but they are actually more like a puppet for the federal government. I guess, weather we have full autonomy or not on our state, we would still face problems.

L : Yeah, it all depends to the leader. Either good or not.

Well, our chat was something like that. Not exactly like that but the main point are the same. That was three years ago...now, any difference? Yes, the difference is, after 3 years, it's getting worst..

Sabah State Budget 2009.....(2008??)

Guong

The complete speech of Sabah state budget for 2009 is published here.
It 'sounds' nice, except for the deficit amounting RM 208 million. 2009 budget is the biggest (RM2,778.81 billion) yet and it really worries me.

Why? Every Sabahan know why. Corruption. Yes, a plague that have taken roots so deep that it somehow seems legal and practiced 'openly'. But, that's another topic.

But before that, what happen to the 2008 budget? Was it a success or 'suck'cess? The main agenda for 2008 budget was Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) and it's still in the 'management' phase, yet to reach the 'implementation' stage. Let's not forget about Sabah power shortage and the incident that cause almost the whole state to 'blackout'. And I didn't find anything in this 2009 budget that is related on improving Sabah power grid managment. Or was it not included as it is less important? Or is it 100% on SESB alone to improve it?

All I can say is 2008 budget was a failure if SDC is to be the benchmark. For 2009? it's still to early to make a conclusion but base on Sabah track records, it's more likely to be a 'beautiful budget' yet again. With a lot more to spend by the rakyat? I hope so even though its more to 'hopeless'....sigh..

Kimanis-Bintulu....one way??

Guong

Pak Lah did it again. His flip-flop policy seems remain unchanged even though his days as PM almost over. In the recent 23rd PBS Annual Congress, he stunned everyone that the scrapped Kimanis-Bintulu Gas Pipeline project as demanded by Sabah is now ON again! He didn't even explain why it was on again.

UPKO leader Bernard G. Dompok was the most vocal on this matter. Or maybe the ONLY Sabahan leader that being vocal on this matter. What about the other Sabahan leader? Yet to hear any 'noise'.

Why must the gas be piped to Bintulu? Why must the government spend a huge sum of money just to build the pipeline to Bintulu when building Sabah's own gas refinery would be more practical and beneficial to Sabah. It's Sabah own resource we're talking about. It's not that we don't want to share but why not make Sabah as the main hub instead of Sarawak? I've got nothing against Sarawak but this is just so unfair.

With this resource, Sabah state can actually solve its 'blackout' problem. It can also create new job opportunity for the local. Most importantly, it can boost Sabah's economy development. It will provide a much more diverse opportunity to develop Sabah as a whole.

RM3 billion worth of 500km gas pipeline, why not just make one refinery in Sabah? Save more cost.

On May 31, Pak Lah assured Sabah leader in Kota Kinabalu that this project will be scrapped. So much for the assurance. But the worst part is, why are the other Sabah leaders seems to ignore this? Have they no 'balls' to say anything? Damn..

We already know that...

Guong

Kota Kinabalu: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz said the entry of Philippine and Indonesian migrants into Sabah was a main contributor to the 278 per cent rise in the State's population between 1970 and 2000.full
We already know that fact. The issue now is what action have been done to solve the immigrant problem effectively.

The increase according to the composition of ethnic is also high according to the census in 1870 and 2000; he said adding that the bumiputera and non-bumiputera population had respectively increased by 253% and 333%. full
Ok, how did they know which was the real bumis and non-bumis. Was it according to their document aka I.C? If it was, what about cases such as issuing red I.C to locals and blue I.C for the "Melayu Baru" peoples? How accurate are these stats?

Frankly, I am not really interested in knowing how and why the population boom happen in Sabah. I already know the answer. What I really want to know are the effective measures done to solve this PTI problem once and for all.

p/s: The year 1870 as stated above are the same year that are type in New Sabah Times. Maybe is was a typing error. But I decided not to change it.

Sabahan Teacher Agree to What?!

Guong

I'm shocked. I'm speechless (well, not totally). The Sabah Government Teacher Unions (KGKS) has unanimously agreed to reinstate history as a subject in all primary school. What? Even in peninsular, this matter is yet to be agreed on but Sabahan teachers already made a decision? A very hasty decision. Did they really discuss it collectively or just based on a few members or the board committee of KGKS?

Yussoff said that children must understand the sacrifices made by the forefathers in bringing development and freedom to the country.

He added that the union preferred that the subject be taught based on the journeys made by leaders of the past which the students could understand better. read more

How can a very young and immature mind understand such complex subject? Surely they'll simplified it but to what extent? Besides, this proposal was clearly politic motivated. To be precise, UMNO. I mean, you can't mix politic with education. Just look at what it have done to Malaysia education. Even our university rank is worst than Thailand.

Ok, they did mention how they preferred this subject to be taught based on the journeys made by leaders of the past. But will it be? The syllabus doesn't even exist yet! How come the decision is made based on NOTHING?!

As I said in my earlier post, I'm not against it but supporting it even there's nothing available to gauge the implementation of this subject? That's an act of a Pak Pandir.

Malaysia Day celebration...who's celebrating?

Guong

I didn't actually went there but I watched it live on RTM 1. My first impression? It was boring , misleading and I somehow felt sad with it. Ok, they celebrated Malaysia Day and I'm supposed to be fill with joy but I just can't. What was the purpose of the celebration? Was it merely to buy the heart of Sabahan and Sarawakian?

Why was there no segment that really tells the true story of how Malaysia was formed? Shouldn't they made the segment since this was the first Malaysia Day celebration? Instead they show dances, singers and others that just doesn't relevant with the Malaysia Day. Even the three narrator of this live broadcast were very misleading. Especially the Datuk (I forgot his name) where he seems like uttering nonsence and so out of the topic. They didn't touch anything on the significant of Sabah and Sarawak forming Malaysia, let alone Singapore.

And what disappoint me most were the speech by Datuk Shafie Apdal, Datuk Musa Aman and Pak Lah himself. They didn't touch anything significant about the forming of Malaysia but instead they were just propagating UMNO-BN. It really sounded like a political campaign. And they didn't even mention Tun Fuad Stephen. All of them!! Instead they mention only Tun Mustapha.

Datuk Shafie even dare to say that the poverty between ethnics were reduced under the current government administration. What?? When?? Datuk Musa Aman on the other hand only emphasize on the SDC which is yet to see any 'dust' moved until now. And Pak Lah? He was just repeating the same thing. He even admitted that this celebration was celebrated due to Sabah and Sarawak 'plea'.

"Kerajaan persekutuan, setelah mengambil kira hasrat daripada rakyat Malaysia di Negeri Sabah dan Sarawak, bahwasanya, tarikh 16 September itu bukanlah sepatutnya menjadi tarikh penutup Hari Kemerdekaan, tetapi ad juga sangat penting jika sekiranya, tarikh 16 September itu juga diperingati sebagai tarikh Malaysia ditubuhkan."- Pak Lah speech on Malaysia Day celebration.
So if the Sabahan didn't voice our 'plea' would the federal government made 16 September as a celebration?

To sum up this first celebration, It was boring, ad hoc, misleading and nothing but another attempt by UMNO-BN to gain Sabahan and Sarawakian support.

History for... UPSR....??

Guong

Yes, you read right, History is going to be taught in primary school and will be made as one of the subject in UPSR. Well, it's still being studied but judging from our Deputy Education Ministry Datuk Razali Ismail response, it seems this proposal will be implemented.

Its deputy minister Datuk Razali Ismail said the matter was being studied in the "Transformation of the Curriculum for Primary Schools" that was slated for implementation two years from now. Yahoo news
But, something just doesn't seems right. It's seems like political motive is involved in this matter.

Why?

Well. first of all, it was propose by our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. It was very obvious that this proposal was base on recent issues such as Social Contract, Religion, Special Rights and racial sentiment. Then these questions comes to mind. What will be the contents of this primary History subject? Will it be free of bias towards certain 'race'? Are these primary students mature enough to understand history? If they are not mature enough, doesn't it looks like 'brainwashing' them.

Why do I use the term 'brainwashing'? Read this.

KOTA KINABALU 16 Okt.

Utusan

Read the bold sentence. What kind of history lesson will it be when these aspects are to be highlight? We all know that these aspects are clearly biased towards a certain race. How can it promote racial harmony when these aspects were to be 'put' in each kids conscience according to 'their' ideology? Isn't this somehow a way of making the next generation to be 'obedient' to 'them'.

I'm not against this proposal, but the syllabus for this would be primary History subject just a bit shady for me.

Or maybe this is just Pak Lah attempt to leave some 'legacy' before he step down as PM..

kick starting "Sabah Development Corridor"

Guong

Everyone knows about SDC. It was one of the development corridor projects that have been planned by the government before the 12th G.E. It was such a hype back then. To gain the rakyat vote, maybe?

But, that was then, what about the present? Where is SDC currently? In progress or....?
Recently, MP YB Datuk Ghapur raised this SDC issue in the parliament. He was asking for an explanation on why the SDC has yet to see any implementation even though it was launch last year. But, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Senator Datuk Amirsham Aziz refuse to answer the question or maybe he actually doesn't even have any answer. I think you can guess what happen next in this session of parliament.

Our PM also made an announcement concerning these corridors project.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said that the government will shelve some of the projects to weather the global economic slowdown, including those that are in the economic corridors. Malaysia Today
If you doesn't trust alternative media, click this link> Utusan

But then, Najib said that everything (development corridors project) was doing just fine. He was saying this in the recent launching of the Sabah International Expo in Kota Kinabalu. 1st article. 2nd article. In the 2nd article, this line caught my attention.

To kick start the SDC, the Federal Government allocated another RM5 billion to upgrade the state’s infrastructure.
Another RM5 billion and yet any progress on the SDC by our State Government? No wonder Datuk Ghapur raise this issue.

So, which is which? SDC was already launch since last year yet not a single 'sand' was moved in term of implementation. What is our CM doing since the SDC was supposed to be under his jurisdiction? Then Najib says everything is doing just fine but Pak Lah is going to review which project should be postpone or 'shelve'. Will it be SDC? Judging by the current world economy, the option wouldn't be good one.

To our leader, walk the talk please.

"Cheers for Sabah Workers"

Guong

After all the bad news on Sabah, at least there are some good one. (besides the reducing of petrol price)

Kota Kinabalu: Employees in Sabah are now entitled to more similar employment rights and benefits as those in West Malaysia, with the implementation of five new rules under the amended Sabah Labour Ordinance (Cap 67).

State Labour Department Director, Siti Aisyah Mohd Asri, said the five new rules under the Sabah Labour Ordinance (Cap 67) have been gazetted and enforced in the State effective May this year.

She said these new rules are:

- Labour (Limitation of Overtime Work) (Sabah) Rules 2008, which has scheduled the maximum amount of overtime work that can be done by the employee in any one month;

- Labour (Termination and Lay-Off Benefits) (Sabah) Rules 2008, which states the general provisions for the entitlement of employees to termination, lay-off and retrenchment benefits payment:

- Labour (Limitation of Powers of Officers) Rules 2008, which states the powers of officers under the Sabah Labour Ordinance (Cap 67);

- Labour (Payment Due to Deceased Employee)(Sabah) Rules 2008, payment that shall be payable by the employer to the next-of-kin on the death of an employee; and

- Labour (Contents of Contract) (Sabah) Rules 2008, which give a guideline on contents of service made by the employer and employee.read more..

But there's a problem, these rules only apply to those who are employed. The problem is Sabah has the highest unemployment rate in Malaysia. And some of these employees are not even Sabahan but from other states. I think it justified the news tittle ".... Sabah workers" not ".... Sabahan Workers".

Well, this good news doesn't seems to be a good news after all. For the unemployed, find a job or make one (entrepreneurship). but Legally la..

"State's success due to political stability: CM" ??

Guong

Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman said the development currently enjoyed by the people in Sabah is the result of political stability and continued economic growth. Daily Express, 12 October 2008

Have you read this in the news? What on earth was he talking about when mentioning Sabah's success? Didn't he know that Sabah is the worst when it comes to the rakyat well being? Didn't he know that we currently are the poorest state in Malaysia?

After reading the whole article (to read click.), he was actually talking about the future programs that have been planed to eradicate poverty in Sabah. What with the misleading title?

He pointed out that the State Government had outlined several programmes to eliminate hardcore poverty among the people. Daily Express, 12 October 2008

But this one just doesn't make sense

Musa also pointed out that Sabah was experiencing an upward economic trend, with more foreign investments pouring in to prompt more positive economic growth. Daily Express, 12 October 2008

Sabah "was" experiencing an upward economic trend? If we were, why did Sabah had the highest poverty level in Malaysia? Or maybe the reporter misquote him by using the word "was". But even if it was misquote, it still doesn't make sense since currently the world economy is in turmoil. How come Sabah experiencing an upward economic trend when the world economy is going downward? Who are these foreign investors that are pouring in to Sabah? Where do they come from? Does it benefit all Sabahan or just the cronies?

It doesn't need a genius to figure that out. Or maybe he thought that
Sabahan are unable to think.

Pak Lah to give way to Najib...any difference?

Guong

It's official, Pak Lah will not be defending his post in UMNO and will step down as PM in March next year. Najib is the one that are being nominated to replace him. So, are there going to be any differences? Most importantly will it bring any difference to Sabah? Let's see...
  1. UMNO would still exist which mean the "'Melayu Baru" a.k.a "PTI with Mykad" will still be there, alive and kicking.
  2. The same government still in power so Sabah will still be the same as before. Being the last state (even though Sabah was supposed to had her own Federal Government) in education and economy.
  3. Sabah will still be marginalize since Sabahan will still be considred as 2nd class citizen due to this race base party policy.
  4. New leader but the same story, again.
You might say it is still early la to make such assumptions. Well, Najib is obviously more favored by the Malay since he is pro-Malay or some might use the term 'racist' (sorry la Anwar..you are seen as traitor by the Malay). So, same story la.. Cronies will still there, NEP still used; which supposed to help the Bumiputera but as you can see, Sabah is the poorest even though there are a lot of Bumiputera here. So NEP is just helping the Malayan Bumiputera.

Even Sabah political leaders are supporting this transition which mean they still support the current goverment even though this same government have been ignoring, marginalizing and robbing Sabah for 45 years. So, what the difference?
Only Sabahan can make a difference. To our political leader, stop being a 'Yes Man'.

Migrating back to Borneo

Guong

Yesterday, I had a short chit-chat (maybe less than 10 minutes..or so) with my colleagues about government school compared to private school in Malaysia. She was planning to resign from our school because she got an offer to teach in a private international school. We start discussing about the difference of learning environment between these two schools.

We came to a conclusion that private schools are way better. If not, why did our own education minister opt for private school rather than the government school for his own children? This conclusion prompts my colleague to spoil the green that she is also going to send her son to the same private school that gave her the offer.

This then made her to spoil another green that she and her family are planning to migrate out of Malaysia. Huh? Well, I didn't ask why for I already know the answer. But she told her reason anyway. It was for a better living.

One might ask why? Is Malaysia such a bad place? Well, as long as race based government is still kicking and alive in Malaysia, I have to say yes. In Malaysia there are two places left that are still not yet affected by these racial issues. Where? Borneo.

So, if I were to migrate, I would migrate from Malaya back to Borneo.

But our racial harmony is now being threatened by these race based parties. UMNO with their propaganda, “Ketuanan Melayu”. And now MCA demand that they should be given the Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah post even though they did nothing to develop Sabah.

I really hope that the people of Borneo don’t easily give in to these peoples. If we do, we might also migrate out from our homeland.

Huh? That's it?! (Mykad scandal)

Guong

Yup, I've been waiting for the proof Datuk Eric Majimbun been talking about on this Mykad scandal. What was it?
SABAH MYKAD SCANDAL:
Sepanggar MP finds Filipino illegal sharing his card's surname and address.
KOTA KINABALU:
The surname and address on his MyKad are the same as the ones belonging to Sepanggar member of parliament Datuk Eric Majimbun, but they are not related. Neither do they know each other.
The MyKad carries the name Jerome Majimbon and the address is Kampung Pomotodon, Jalan Kionsom, Inanam.
In Sabah, people are regarded as having the same surname despite a slight variation in spelling.
Majimbun said: “I was surprised because we don’t have a relative with such a name and the people in Kampung Pomotodon are unaware of the existence of such a person in the village.”
He found out that the man in question was a Filipino illegal immigrant whose real name is Jerom Maguil.
Majimbun wants answers from the Home Ministry and the National Registration Department (NRD) on how the man had obtained the MyKad bearing the number 560930-12-5739.
“I have written to the secretary-general of the Home Ministry but I have yet to receive a reply,” he said today. NST online 2008/10/04
Didn't he said that he will bare all of the evidences on this Mykad scandal? That's the proof? Honestly, I'm quit disappointed since I was hoping for more than that. Well, it's better than nothing I guess.

Now what does the Home Ministry and the National Registration Department have to say about this. Another mistake like the 'red Mykad' issue? I'll bet they'll make the same excuse, "It was mistake, we will see into it." Yeah right..!!

Sabah Mykad Scandal....after all these years..

Guong

Evidence of illegal issuance of MyKad to foreigners will be released by the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) on Saturday.
The MP for Sepanggar, Datuk Eric Majimbun, said he would reveal the details that led to a population explosion in the state.
“Just imagine, our population increased by 285 per cent between 1970 and 2000,” he said. “I will bare all, including proof of people not born in Sabah becoming Malaysian citizens (in Sabah).”
Majimbun, who is also SAPP deputy president, was at the state government’s Hari Raya open house in Likas, hosted by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman on Wednesday.
NST online, 2008/10/02
Really? They have all the details? If they do, I hope those who were involved in this 'Projek I.C' scandal will be brought to justice and those who were issued with these 'Projek' Mykads will be sent back to where they supposed to be, their own home soil.

But, why wait until tomorrow (Saturday)? Why not reveal it today? Why am I smelling a bait for buy-out here? This date somehow similar to Anwar's date of toppling the government. Which remains as just a 'date'.

I really hope that this isn't just one of those politic talks with no actions. And no more mistake like the 'red Mykad' issues. The last thing we want is mistaking the locals for an illegal immigrants.

Either way, let us hope that our Datuk can walk the talk.
“I will bare all, including proof of people not born in Sabah becoming Malaysian citizens (in Sabah).” Datuk Eric Majimbun.

One Man Music Is Another Man Noise

Guong

I mentioned in my profile that I like music but I'm yet to post anything about music (and girls..I think I'll save that for another time..hehe). Well, I think I should rest a bit from my political mind which tend to make me sound like a very serious, critical, straight forward and boring guy..hehe..

What type of music do you like? That is quite an odd question cause people usually asked 'Which singer/band do you like?' or 'Who's your favorite artist/group/band? ' And I can't really answer the second question cause frankly, I don't really have any. I usually related to a band/singer with the music they make rather than their personal life, looks, gossip etc..

That being said, I listen to almost all artist out there (I say 'almost all' since there are still a lot undiscovered talents). Every music is unique. Be it soft, swing jazz to the fast, energetic hard metal. But people tend to generalize music. Like, if a man likes to listen to Backstreet Boys, Westlife and other boybandish type of music, they are labeled as 'gay' (ironically, most 'gay' do listen to this music). And if a women likes to listen to Metalica, Iron maiden, Sepultura etc, they are labeled as wild girl and sometimes as demeaning as a 'bitch'. (mainly because they look rebellious like piercing, black coloured nail, dark eyeliner etc.)

Different ideologies also arise and people tend to make confrontation with it. Mainstream music, underground music (well, they called it alternative or independent nowadays), elite music.. bla..bla.. balatung.. kacang panjang.. gorouk.. puntih..

Who Cares? I mean whatever you called it, it is still just music, with a different tempo, feel, chord, and attitude. Hate the people who sang it? Just hate em' if that makes you happy but don't hate the music. Peace..

p/s: After finished writing this post, I still sounds like a serious, critical, straight forward and boring guy..hahaha..

Selamat Hari Raya

Guong

Yup, Hari Raya is just round the corner. To all my Muslim friends, I wish you Selamat Hari Raya, balik kampung kirim kuih pinjaram aa.

Here in the Peninsular, the Malays celebrate Hari Raya with traditional foods, visiting relatives and friends, wearing their new baju raya; the baju melayu, complete with samping and songkok for the guys and baju kurung for the ladies. Well it is obvious since those are their tradition.

What about Sabah's muslim communities? How do they celebrate it? Ok.. What I will say in this post are just my opinions and maybe offensive to some Sabahan but I am just pointing my view also as a Sabahan. So, sorry in advance.

I'll start by asking this question, why do you, as a Sabahan wear baju Melayu or baju kurung when celebrating Hari Raya? Let say you are Dusun. Why don't you wear Dusun traditional dress when celebrating Hari Raya? Or maybe Bajau, Rungus, Chinese, murut etc..

It's sometimes puzzle me. If they (the Malay) can be proud with their tradition and incorporate it with their religion, why can't Sabahan? Why must the Sabahan Muslims forsake their own identity and culture? Some even went to the extreme by saying that they are now Malay because they have convert into Islam. Since when did practicing Islam changes one race? what about a Japanese converting to Islam, does that change his/her race into Malay?

I'm not bashing Islam or the Malays, just questioning the Sabahan Muslims mentality. And once again, I'm sorry if my post offended any of you in anyway.

16 September Celebration...

Guong

"Normally, the closing of the independence celebration is held on Malaysia Day on Sept 16," he told reporters at the breaking of fast with the media at the National Museum here tonight.
Quote by Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal taken from Bernama news as published in Yahoo news. link

"Normally"? Since when did this so called closing of the independence celebration started? And this coming from a fellow Sabahan?

When I first read this news at the Utusan Online, I thought that 16 September have been declared as a public holiday. And surprise, surprise, it was not. Read it and I'm sure you'd be confuse too. Well, since it was from them, I should have expected the 'confusion'.
The full story was this,

On the call for Sept 16 to be declared a public holiday, he said it would not be entertained as it would confuse the people between the independence day and the Malaysia day.
taken from Yahoo News. link
Why is it that this date is so 'sacred' to Sabahan and Sarawakian?
  • It is sacred because it was a date of the forming of Malaysia when Sabah and Sarawak joined Malaya as Federal Government and not as one of the Malaya state.
  • It is sacred because it was a date where Sabah and Sarawak joined Malaya not to achive Independence but accepting Tunku Abdul Rahman invitations. The real independence date for Sabah was 31st of August 1963 and for Sarawak was 22nd of July 1963.
  • It is sacred because it is a reminder for the Malaya Federal Government on the 20-point agreement for Sabah and the 18-point agreement for Sarawak before forming Malaysia.
I've went to a number of local forums on the web which are based in the Peninsular of Malaya and it's really sicken me when most of the forum members doesn't even know the history on the forming of Malaysia. They only see 16 September as something political. Some even say that the Sabahan and Sarawakian demand it as 'candy' due to our huge contribution on the winning of the current government during the 12th general election.

It is more than just politic. It is about our rights. Rights that have been long ignored by the Federal Government. 45 years to be exact.

Food For ISA Detainees Are Slightly Better Than Dog Food..??

Guong

Yes, Theresa Kok have compared the food she was served as slightly better than dog food. She claim that her statement was being manipulated against her. I've attached her counter argument on that matter. click here

So, what was the menu that she claim to be almost similar to dog food? It was 2 boiled eggs, cucumber and gravy; twice a day. To see the menu click here.

I don't know if she is aware of this or not, but those food so called as slightly better than dog food is actually a much better food than some of the poor or working class people have daily. Her statement just show how much apart she is with the lower-level communities. It's almost the same as saying that those who eat these foods are just a bit better than a dog.

Ironically, most of these peoples are from the land of Borneo. I myself eats dried fish with lime juice and 'cili padi' when I was still a kid back in my Kampung in Sabah. Are those foods also slightly better than dog food?

And whats really disappoint me, she is actually with the opposition who claim to be championing all Malaysian.

She was maybe trying to degrade ISA with this statement but at the same time she is insulting those who live by these 'almost dog food' foods.

Oh No! My Darling..!!

Guong

I've just got my darling this year. She is so slick, slim, beautiful...and the list of words goes on and on.. BUT, other peoples are just jealous of me and her. Or may be they are simply ignorant to others. Look at what they have done to my darling..aiya..kin panas..

People simply open their car's door and hit my darling..(right side)
This one quite bad, the metal is exposed. Aduh..cis.. (left side)And this..I don't know what to say..(left side, front end)The latest one, under the front bumper, I didn't saw a hole when I was parking my car (well, this one is my fault..heh).

All of this happen when my car was parked, except for the last one. My conclusion, most people in Klang just don't care about anyone else. It makes me miss Sabah even more. Where most of the people care about someone else. Well, I stress the word 'most' though since not all of the people are the way I mentioned them..but finding one is like searching an unscratched car at the parking lot.

Akta Hubungan Kaum...??

Guong

Education in Malaysia

Guong

Sejauh mana tahap pendidikan kamu?

My First Blog..um..2nd actually

I've already know the existence of blog for a long period of time yet I've never actually start one..Well, I did start one before but that was like just 2 months ago. So I consider myself as a newbie in the blog community.

So, what with the sudden interest? Well, maybe it's because I now have an internet connection 24/7. Why waste it by just surfing randomly?

In the future, I might post in using other than English since it is not my first language. Maybe I'll use my national language which is Bahasa Malaysia; maybe Sabahan slang or my own mother tongue, Dusun.

I might also write post that are inadvertently offensive to others. (I hope not)
